Pueblo kids headed to Jackie Robinson World Series

The Laguna Acoma Dodgers baseball team is headed to the Jackie Robinson World Series in Brownsville, Texas.

Last year, the team made up of Pueblo kids almost didn't get to go to the Roberto Clemente World Series in Georgia. But with the help of KOB Eyewitness News 4’s generous viewers, the team raised the $15,000 dollars needed to head to Atlanta.

The team says last year's opportunity opened the doors for them to attend this game.

"When you have kids that want to play and you have kids that want to do good, then you're going to have success and that's where it's leading to us right now," coach Joseph Sanchez said.

The team’s first game is Monday night against one of the 12 teams taking part in the world series.

"We’re all behind them and I hope the state of New Mexico will cheer them on,” Laguna Pueblo Gov. Richard Luarkie said. “Any time we have our youth going out of state to represent the state of NM it's always an honor so we're very proud of them.”
