The sound of flowing water is exactly what you want to hear in the Pecos Canyon. Unfortunately, the river isn't flowing as freely these days.

The monsoon has been devastating in the canyon. In fact, the state environmental department estimates 70-80 percent of the fish in the Pecos River have died.

State and federal environmental officials are working to prevent more runoff into the river.

Today, KOB Eyewitness News 4 got to see damage that not many people have seen. Roads are still blocked off in an area that normally would be hopping with summer tourists.

The feds recently recommended closing Pecos Canyon for up to two years, but that decision is ultimately up to the state.
