With school starting in a week for most Albuquerque kids, businesses across the metro have gathered thousands of school supplies to make sure students start the year off right.

The businesses have been collecting school supplies almost all summer from their own employees. On Tuesday, employees from Fidelity Investments filled a school bus with backpacks, pencils, art supplies and more to send to APS.

The supplies will be passed out to 54,000 low-income or homeless kids attending APS schools.

"We like to make sure we make a difference in the community where our employees live and work, and with such a great need here in Albuquerque Public Schools for our student population, Fidelity has the focus on students to stay in school," said Veronica Reyes of Fidelity.

If you're interested in receiving some of these supplies, APS says to contact your child’s school counselor. They will then provide you with information on how to get help.
