Parents who have to drive their children across some bridges to get to school can be reimbursed.

The Gallup McKinley County School district says buses can't cross metal bridges on county or tribal roads that are rated for less than 15 tons until they are certified safe by NMDOT for the weight of the buses.

This will affect all schools except Ramah, Crownpoint, Navajo, Thoreau and Roosevelt Elementary.

Parents who have to drive across those bridges will be reimbursed 35 cents per mile by the district, but they need to contact their child's school to apply for the payments.
