A 19-year-old oilfield worker was killed in a commercial vehicle accident in Lea County on Thursday morning.

The Lea County Sheriff's office responded to reports of the accident at the oilfield on State Road 128 just west of Jal, N.M.

Deputies at the scene learned 19-year-old Brian Scruggs may have become pinned between a semi-tractor and the sub-structure of the rig while working on site.

Medics attempted emergency medical care, but were unable to revive Scruggs. The Office of the Medical Investigator responded to the scene and an autopsy has been scheduled.

No citations were issued. The investigation is ongoing.
