Safety alert issued for possible armed man on NMSU campus

A safety advisory has been issued for a possible armed man near the New Mexico State University campus.

According to a post on the university's website, 34-year-old Jonathan Havstad is upset with NMSU and campus police. He made a statement that he was going to shoot people and he may be trying to obtain a gun.

He is described as a white male with blue eyes, 6'1" and 215 pounds. He may be driving a 2011 red Scion with NM license plate LRJ144

Anyone who sees the suspect on campus is urged to call 911 and not to approach him.
