SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - More than two dozen New Mexico firefighters have been dispatched to help fight blazes in Oregon, Washington and California.

The New Mexico State Forestry Division says two 10-person hand crews that are made up of division staff, military veterans and seasonal firefighters have been assigned to the Douglas Fire in Oregon.

An engine from State Forestry's Bernalillo District and an engine crew from San Juan County have been assigned to fires in California.

State Forestry Resource Protection Bureau Chief Donald Griego says it appears New Mexico's fire season has wrapped up, but many areas of the West are still volatile and fire potential is high.

Earlier this summer, resources were mobilized from many different agencies and many states to help fight fires in New Mexico.
