New Mexico state legislator Stephen Easley died Wednesday from complications from an infection.

Easley served an area that included Santa Fe County.

In the last legislative session, Easley fought but lost the battle for an assault weapons ban in New Mexico.

More recently, he was digging for answers in the controversy over the suspension of Medicaid funds for several mental health providers.
