Albuquerque police have lifted a lockdown activated at Whittier Elementary Tuesday morning during their search for a domestic violence suspect in the area.

APD officer Tasia Martinez said a man accused of cutting his girlfriend with a knife had fled from a residence on Palomas Drive SE.

Police were searching for the suspect near Whittier Elementary School, prompting the lockdown at 9:20 a.m.

Police are still searching the area for the suspect, but Whittier is no longer on lockdown.

According to Martinez, the woman first told officers she fell on a knife, but police believed she was cut by her boyfriend and initiated the search. The woman suffered a cut on her neck during the incident.
