When Michelle Donaldson joins KOB Eyewitness News 4 to lead the newsroom on September 9, she will be on very familiar ground.

"Leaving New Mexico was a hard decision; returning there to do a job I love is a perfect scenario for me.  I feel so fortunate to be joining KOB 4's fine news team and can't wait to be back, " Donaldson said. "My family and I have missed so much about the state."

For the last five years, Donaldson has been news director in Phoenix at CBS affiliate KPHO. Prior to that, she was news director at KRQE/KASA for five years.

"Michelle's news acumen coupled with her knowledge of and enthusiasm for covering New Mexico's news put her at the top of our candidate list," explained KOB 4 general manager Mike Burgess. "Her work at KPHO has added to her already considerable achievement list.  She is a great fit for our news team."

Donaldson's work in Phoenix was directed at repositioning a news station. The efforts paid off, and for the last two years, KPHO has been the most-watched TV station in Arizona Monday-Sunday, 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. (virtual sign-on to sign-off).  Also under Donaldson's leadership, KPHO's news team won a 2011 Peabody Award for "Toxic Secrets" exposing how the U.S. military secretly buried tons of Agent Orange on a base in Korea years after they knew it was toxic.

Donaldson's previous news director tour in New Mexico was during KRQE's growth as a news organization. During her time there, that station, too, drastically improved its standing in local news ratings.

Prior to moving to New Mexico in 2000, Donaldson spent eight years at Detroit's legendary news station WXYZ, where she managed news and programming, including special projects, weekly magazine shows, newscasts and specials.  Her career in Detroit also included seven years with another news leader there, radio station WJR 760 AM, where she anchored morning drive news for the 50,000 watt powerhouse.

Donaldson graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in journalism and mass communications.  She is married and has two children.
