Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity has two storage units filled with donations and no place to put them.

Organizers were planning to open a re-store to sell gently used furniture and items that can be used for homes.

Executive director Jennifer Theissen said sales from the store would really help them out.

"This way it would help us not rely on the donations so heavily in order for homes to be built in San Juan County," she said.

The group decided to lease the building a few months ago, because it fit their budget. They asked the community for donations and planned to open in September.

But after an inspection with the fire marshal, they found out the building wasn't up to code. They also found out it didn't fit Habitat for Humanity's standards for a re-store.

"One of the board members called me to let me know and it was just a big blow, said Thiessen. She said it's not only a loss for them but for the community as well.

"We have these donated items that they can replace in their home at a thrift store price," she said.

Now the search is on for a new place to open up a re-store.

"We don't have a large budget for this, so when you have all these requirements it's hard to find something that's also affordable"

Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity is planning several events to raise more money for the restore. They will host a golf tournament in Farmington in October.
