West Nile case reported in Bernalillo County

The first human case of the West Nile virus in Bernalillo County has been confirmed by the state department of health.

According to a news release, a 60-year-old man was hospitalized with the virus. The man has encephalitis, a more severe form of the disease.

This is the fourth human case of West Nile in New Mexico, one of which was fatal.

The department of health identified two cases in Curry County and one other in San Juan County.
