The captain of the Santa Fe Police Department is down to his last week on the job.

Captain Aric Wheeler is retiring from SFPD after spending 20 years there.

He is moving on to be a safety director at Pojoaque Valley Middle School.

Wheeler says changes to the Public Employees Retirement Association are part of the reason he is leaving.

Wheeler’s last day is next Friday.

Lieutenant Dale Lettenberg will replace him.
