ALBUQUERQUE -- A man is in critical condition after he was stabbed by his girlfriend in southeast Albuquerque, according to police.

The incident happened around midnight at an apartment near Gibson and Carlisle. APD officer Simon Drobik said it all started when Lorenza Navarro and Nolberto Torres Gonzales got into an argument after a night of drinking.

Gonzales reportedly knocked over a cooking pot while Navarro was cooking. That's when police said she grabbed a butcher knife and stabbed him.

Officers arrested Navarro and booked her on charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Paramedics transported Gonzales to UNM Hospital with serious injuries.
