Visitors are invited to spend the extended Labor Day weekend at a New Mexico State Park.  "I welcome you to bring your family for a fun Labor Day adventure," said State Park Director Tommy Mutz.  "Fishing, camping, boating, swimming, hiking-we have it all.  We also have some great special events planned."

State Parks are beautiful this time of year and with the summer rains, lake levels are up and late summer wildflowers are in bloom.  Parks will also feature some great family events across the state.

Labor Day events at state parks include:

Oasis State Park - 5th Annual Catfish Derby, August 31, 5:00-9:00 p.m.  Oasis State Park and the Friends of Oasis are sponsoring this event, with prizes for the biggest fish and door prizes drawn throughout the derby.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park - Memorial Walkway Brick Installation, August 31, 9:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m.  Join the park and riders from Run for the Wall to take part in the annual installation of bricks within the memorial walkway.

Bottomless Lakes State Park - Bubblefest, August 31- September 2, 8:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m.  Scuba divers can explore the depths of Lea Lake and can participate in an  underwater poker game . Divers collect cards from around Lea Lake and on the final day present their poker hands for a chance to win a prize.

Eagle Nest Lake State Park - Wildlife Spotting, September 1, 1:00 p.m.  Join the park interpreter for wildlife viewing and refreshments on the visitor center patio at Eagle Nest Lake State Park.

When enjoying parks, always make safety your first priority. Being prepared on the water could save your life, and the lives of your loved ones. State law requires that you wear a lifejacket when on a canoe, kayak, or raft, , and that all children 12 years old and younger wear a lifejacket while on the deck of a moving vessel. The State Parks Division offers FREE boating safety classes around the state and on-line throughout the year.
