Plenty of people are spending Labor Day out on the lake.

Park rangers at Navajo Lake State Park estimate about 11,000 people made it out over the holiday weekend.

Visitors at Navajo Lake say this summer has been nothing but fun in the sun.

"It’s just really nice to be here with family and friends," said Richard Johnson.

But the lake is a bit lower this year compared to previous years.

"Lots of fun but it’s pretty dry this year so we're concerned about that," said Johnson.

According to Navajo Lake State Park, the lake was roughly at 75-percent capacity last year.

This year it dropped to about 50-percent.

But even though the water level is lower this year, rangers say they've still been very busy this summer.

"We have seen about a four and a half percent increase from this year as compared to last," said park ranger Drew Townsend.

Officials say Navajo Lake hasn't been hit as hard by the drought as other state lakes. They say that's contributed to higher attendance.

"We’ve been getting a lot of people that say it’s their first time that they typically go to other lakes in the state but that they've notice that Navajo still has relatively more water than the other lakes," said Townsend.

And that's exactly what visitors told us.

"There’s still quite a bit of water here an that's why we chose this lake to come to,” said visitor Kathy Valdez.

Visitors hope the water levels will be higher next year.
