SANTA FE -- It was a fiery spectacle in Santa Fe during the annual Burning of Zozobra.

Old Man Gloom went up in flames during an event that saw some changes designed to bring out more spectators this year.

They say it's never good to take out your anger on other people, but they never said anything about other things; something that's 50 feet tall and 116 pounds and a representation of everything bad in life that people waited for hours to destroy.

Organizers also gave Old Man Gloom a new feel this year. This 89th year, Old Man Gloom is a little more authentic; a little more of what he should have looked like in the last few decades.

But, at the end of the day, that's not why people are here. Certainly not why 10-year-old Brandon Vigil was here. When asked if he felt bad for Old Man Gloom, Vigil replied, "Yeah, kinda."

A young man who takes pity on the old guy, the target of a crowd's anger and rage, year after year.
