CORRALES, N.M. -- Some parents woke up Sunday morning to find their 9-year-old son missing from their home in Corrales.

The autistic boy wandered out of the home some time before 7 a.m.

But the community jumped into action and the boy was found about seven hours later.

The parents of Marwesh Bali say he has never done this before.

They woke up and saw that he was not in his bed.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 spoke with his father before his son was found.

He told KOB because his son has autism, he was concerned that would hinder his ability to get back home.

"He is not very fluent in his language so I hope he gets someone to help him and get him back safely to us," Mathias Bali said.

Several law enforcement agencies responded.

"Albuquerque Police Department, Bernalillo County police department, Open Space, Rio Rancho, Sandoval County Sheriff's Department and Corrales Police Department," detective sergeant Frank Tomlinson said.

The community searched for him as well and helped get signs up around town.

Sunday afternoon around 2 p.m., the boy was found safe by an Open Space officer.

Officials say he was watching some kids play near Guadalupe Trail and Alameda.

That is more than seven miles away from his home.

But Tomlinson said the boy was amazingly not even dehydrated.

"I'm really happy that he is home and now I will be more careful now.  I will put a watch on him 24/7," Bali said.

The family said they believe their son is home safe because of the huge response to find him. He was taken to an urgent care just as a precaution.
