ALBUQUERQUE -- Weather is a big concern for those heading out to the New Mexico State Fair on Wednesday, but so is security.

Police will be out in full force making sure people are being smart. State police told KOB Eyewitness News 4 there will be 24-hour security throughout the fair's two-week run. Thirty oficers will be patrolling the grounds at a time--some in uniform, but some undercover to really make sure people are safe.

But police said there's one thing that is their biggest safety concern.

"Large crowds. You know, crowds that want to have a good time and sometimes they have too much fun and that can, you know, create a flood sometimes so, you know, we're here to make sure that doesn’t get out of hand," said Sergeant Emmanuel Gutierrez of New Mexico State Police.

Sgt. Gutierrez said parents should keep an eye on their kids because of the crowds.

The fair lasts from Sept. 11-22. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, the fair lasts from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Adults get in for $10 while seniors and kids 11 and under get in for $7. Kids 5 and under are free.

General parking is free but some "preferred" paid parking will also be available. Gate 9 (Louisiana just north of Central) is permanently closed to Fair traffic. Fairgoers wishing to park on the grounds may use Gate 8 (Louisiana just south of Lomas) and Gate 1 off Central Avenue.
