The water rushed high and fast over Northern and 10th in northwest Rio Rancho.
Friday morning, the rain was coming down so hard through town the school district worried kids wouldn't get home safely.
The school phone notification system alerted parents that kids from six out of the 19 schools in the district who live on rural roads had to stay on campus until parents or other family members could pick them up.
It was a precaution that many parents said made them feel more at ease.
As homecoming and other special events are about to be held, many parents and students hope Mother Nature gives them a break.
By late Friday afternoon, school officials said, all kids affected were home safe and many of the roads had re-opened.
