Already, some roof repair companies in the metro tell KOB Eyewitness News 4 they're booked out several weeks just to do inspections for water damage. Waits are even longer for repairs.

Sometimes your roof can hold up after a hard rainfall, and the leaks don't start for a few days.

KOB talked to the experts at Goodrich Roofing in Albuquerque for some tips.

1.) For tar gravel roofs -- those flat roofs -- you want to make sure your drainage canals are clean and clear of any debris. That's what keeps water on the roof.

2.) Keep a close eye on vents -- 9 times out of 10, water leaks come through air conditioning intakes, and skylights.

3.) If you have a sloped roof, keep an eagle eye on your roof for any shingles that may have slipped in the rain. Those need to be fixed right away to keep water from seeping in through the roofing.

4.) As far as prevention: a tarp over any existing cracks or weak spots can save you a lot of hassle if it rains again.
