Police: Suspicious package found in Navajo Nation not a bomb

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. -- Investigators determined a suspicious package found outside of the Navajo Police Department on Wednesday did not contain explosives.

New Mexico State Police would not confirm what was inside the package, but said it did not blow up when inspected by an Arizona bomb squad.

Authorities responded to the scene after the package was discovered outside the prosecutor's office, which also serves as the police headquarters, around 8 a.m.

According to Navajo Nation spokesperson Erny Zah, nearly 300 people were evacuated from the building, including the criminal unit, dispatch, DPS unit, the entire police department and inmates who were inside at the time of the incident.

A suspicious package was reported near the Navajo Police Department.
