A little rain can be good for the track, but last week’s storms didn't help the Aztec Speedway.
"It was going to allow the moisture to go through it and when I came back the next day the whole infield was under water were talking about at least 12 inches of water," said Mike Tenski, Aztec Speedway Manager.
The water didn't just damage the track. It also knocked out a stairway to the upper parking lot, making it unsafe for people to use.
“It’s a fifteen-foot drop from where you stand to the bottom of the hole," said Tenski.
Speedway officials decided to call off a race last weekend.
And since they couldn't reschedule in time to make repairs, they decided to cancel the rest of the season.
"It's not the way we wanted to do it. We wanted to finish the season on points and have all the championship decided on the track," said Tenski.
But after looking at the points, the last race wasn't likely to change the outcome.
Even though the competitive races are over, the speedway will still host its charity race October 5. The season will then start again in May.
