Rio Arriba County residents who evacuated due to flooding on Sunday night are returning home to a mess of mud and standing water.

According to the Rio Arriba Sheriff's Office, people who lived along Highway 68 near Alcalde and Velarde were urged to evacuate around 9 p.m.

On Monday morning, the sheriff's office observed standing mud and water in the areas where they feared flooding would take place.

On the road from Highway 285 toward El Puebla, authorities also observed mud piles left behind after arroyo flooding.

There is no word yet on clean up or relief efforts for the affected residents.
