Rollover Crash West of Jal, New Mexico leaves one person dead

Eddy County — On Friday, September 27, 2013, at approximately 8:52 PM; New Mexico State Police responded to the scene of a single commercial motor vehicle (CMV) rollover crash on County Road 789 (Red Road) which is, forty five miles west of Jal, NM. 

Initial investigation by New Mexico State Police determined that a 2006 commercial motor vehicle was traveling northbound on CR 789.  The CMV was driven by Richard Morin, age 59, of Olney, TX.  

Evidence located at the scene indicates Mr. Morin was traveling northbound, lost control of the CMV, resulting in it to roll once.  Mr. Morin, who was not utilizing a seatbelt, was ejected from the CMV.  

Due to his injuries, Mr. Morin passed away on scene. 

It appears excessive speed plays a role in this crash. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this crash.
