LAS CRUCES -- A wedding reception brawl at a popular hotel in Las Cruces ended with two Albuquerque men in handcuffs early Sunday.
Around 2 a.m., Las Cruces police were dispatched to Hotel Encanto on reports of a fight between seven to eight men inside. Officers learned the brawl erupted after a wedding reception and that hotel security was unable to control the large gathering.
According to police, 36-year-old Mario Saiz punched a woman in the face as he exited the club, causing her to fall to the ground unconscious.
Police said Saiz refused to listen to their commands and attempted to take an officer's baton. Another man, 41-year-old Paul Calderon, interfered and tried to help Saiz escape, according to police.
Saiz and Calderon were charged with one count each of aggravated assault on a peace officer and resisting an officer. Saiz was also charged with aggravated battery of a police officer. They are booked at the Doña Ana County Detention Center on $10,000 bonds each.
The woman knocked unconscious during the brawl was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police were not seriously hurt during the incident.
