It's not often a team rushes for almost 500 yards and loses, but that's what happened to the Lobo football team on Saturday night. UNM dropped a high-scoring affair to UNLV, 56-42. It's the first time in Bob Davie's coaching career he's given up more than 50 points in a game.
Defensively, it comes down to one-on-one matchups and the Lobos just can't keep up. They need to develop and recruit more players on defense, specifically in the secondary.
Here are some numbers on defense for UNM this season:
Pts given up Yds given up
vs UTSA 21 394
at UTEP 35 399
at PITT 49 527
vs UNLV 56 568
You've got to stop someone if you want to win more games. The Lobos will get another chance this week when they host New Mexico State. The Aggies are winless and coming off a loss to San Diego State.
