Group helps college students sign up for health insurance

A consumer group is helping college students sign up for health insurance plans.     

The New Mexico Public Interest Research Group held an event at UNM to explain the health insurance exchange and how to pick the best plan.

"We'll be going out talking to students trying to get them informed. I think most students don't realize what is going on now; that they can get health insurance," NMPIRG representative Nathan Lihte said. "I think there is a great need for it and desire for it amongst students.

Under the Affordable Care Act, children can stay on their parents' insurance until age 26. That part of the law went into effect in 2010.
