A city-wide late-term abortion ban will be voted on in November. But Tuesday, opponents stood outside polling places pulling for votes already.

Activists gathered 100 feet from polling locations. They asked for pledges to vote against the ban in next month’s election – minimizing work by going straight to people likely to vote.

“We just want to make sure people who are civically engaged, showing up to vote, know we have another election coming,” Micaela Cadena said. “And that this harmful ballot measure will be on November 19th.”

It sounds like a logical strategy, but supporters of the ban measure weren’t out at the polls today.

“We're actually not as desperate for votes as they are, we know the people of this city and people of this nation support banning late term abortions and we're confident this will pass,” Tara Shaver of ABQ Voters for Late-Term Abortion ban said.

Still, opponents say they have a shot.

“We've talked to people today that said, I was ready to vote now but it wasn't on the ballot,” Cadena said.
