Robert Sandman, 52.

A man released from jail in Sandoval County while he was wanted as a person of interest in a Georgia homicide case is back in police custody on Monday.

According to Albuquerque police, narcotics detectives were executing a search warrant at a residence near Edith Boulevard and Osuna Road when they found 52-year-old Robert Sandman.

According to Duluth, Ga., NBC affiliate WXIA, Sandman is wanted for questioning in the death of his neighbor, 57-year-old Donald Singer. Police said the victim's Porsche and credit cards were missing when his body was found in late March.

Deputies later found Sandman in Algodones, N.M., with the stolen vehicle and credit cards in his possession. He was arrested in July, but was released from the Sandoval County Jail due to a paperwork mistake, according to WXIA.

"The criminal justice system is not perfect. I have been in the criminal justice system for more than 30 years and it is not perfect. Sometimes mistakes are made," Major Donald Woodruff of the Duluth Police Department told KOB Eyewitness News 4.

In 1992, Sandman was convicted of murdering his wife in New Mexico. According to Associated Press reports at that time, Victoria Sandman's body was found floating in the Pecos River in Carlsbad.

Albuquerque police also arrested multiple other people during the drug raid on Monday morning. Police said a 1-year-old child is being handed over to New Mexico's Children, Youth and Families Department because the baby's mother was arrested.
