PECOS, N.M. -- The first snow storm of the season covered trees and houses and made roads a little wet for drivers early Wednesday.

It was part of the snow storm that swept over parts of northern New Mexico.

But residents hoping for more snow in the area are out of luck. The National Weather Service told KOB the storm rolled out at around 11 Wednesday morning.

People who live in Pecos loved the snow while it lasted and hope it's a sign of an early winter.

"I certainly would welcome it. I'm an outdoor enthusiast," Pecos resident Don Perea said. "I enjoy going skiing and snow mobiling and things like that. So the sooner it can come the sooner we can start enjoying those kind of activities."

So does that mean an early winter?

Not necessarily. The National Weather Service said this is a normal pattern for this time of year.

Early winter or not a lot of people loved the snow, including Ski Santa Fe. They told KOB the moisture it brought is great for the mountain.

But it's not enough to open early. They're still looking at opening around Thanksgiving.
