San Juan College in Farmington is looking for new ways to focus on research.
They’re hoping their new research park, four corners innovations, does just that.
People at the college hope it will bring big business to the college.
Since the recession San Juan College has been looking for ways to generate more money for the school.
They recently founded four corners innovations research park.
The goal is to give faculty and staff a venue for their technology and business ideas.
"It will give an opportunity to faculty and staff to have a way if they come up with someone that they can put it forward," said Dr. James Henderson, Chairman of Four Corners Innovations.
We’re not just talking about scientific research if faculty or staff or even someone from the community had a product or patent they wanted to sell, four corners innovations could help them do that.
They would share part of the profit, and that money would go back to the college.
The college hopes the program will not only benefit current faculty, but hopefully attract new teachers.
"Faculty that maybe traditionally working for big universities in big cities who want to retire come teach for us part time, but still want to do research this is what the research park can offer," said Randy Pacheco, Dean of the School of Energy.
The idea is in beginning stages. There are currently seven board members who are working on funding options and getting the word out.
"We’ve got something up on the radar screen, there's already some folks who have talked to us about a particular something they have so were visiting them," said Henderson.
