The Petroglyph National Monument is known for its historic markings.  But there is a rock out there right now that has a marking that is not supposed to be there.

One of the lava rocks has been painted like a big white bunny.  Residents in the area say it's been there for several years, but they don't know who did it.

Danielle Todesco brought a picture of the graffiti to the Petroglyph National Monument office.  Diane Souder there said since it is federally managed land, it could be a felony for damaging it.

"This is a national resource so this belongs to all Americans.  Doing something like this is a grievous," Souder said.

Souder says they will send someone out Tuesday morning to check it out.  She says it's a careful process to remove paint from the rocks, and if it's on a rock that has Petroglyph markings, they won't touch it.
