ROSWELL -- New Mexico State Police have released more information about the man killed in a shootout with officers near Roswell on Monday.
Christoval Quintana, 30, of Lovington, N.M., was on federal probation after serving 10 years in prison for the armed robbery of an Albuquerque bank.
Quintana led state police and Chaves County sheriff's deputies on a chase down US 285 after an officer spotted him parked along the highway on Monday morning.
According to state police, Quintana opened fire on the officers after his vehicle ran over stop sticks near Chickasaw Road. After hitting one state police officer in the leg, authorities returned fire, killing Quintana.
State police said the injured officer has since been released from the hospital and is in good health.
