ALBUQUERQUE -- PNM restored power to thousands of customers affected by a widespread outage just before noon on Wednesday.
According to PNM, five substations went down after a lightning arrestor in one of the substations caused an arc flash, which then caused a transmission line breaker to open around 10 a.m.
The outage boundaries included Carlisle, Juan Tabo, Comanche and Southern Avenue SE. Around 19,000 PNM customers and 13 schools lost power Wednesday morning.
Police officers were also dispatched to several intersections to help direct traffic, including Carlisle and Claremont, Carlisle and Canderlaria, Eubank and Snowheights, Paseo and Lousiana, Eubank and Lomas and Juan Tabo and I-40.
