HOBBS, N.M. -- A woman chased by Texas officers across the state line was shot and killed near Hobbs on Sunday, according to New Mexico State Police.
The incident began as a vehicle pursuit in Denver City, Texas. According to state police, the Denver City Police Department and Yoakum County sheriff's deputies were attempting to locate 35-year-old Amy Reyna, who was wanted on several felony warrants out of Texas and New Mexico.
A deputy spotted Reyna's vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. When the man driving the vehicle pulled over and got out, police said Reyna jumped from the passenger's side to the driver's seat and drove off.
Two Texas officers began pursuing Reyna into New Mexico, where the Lea County Sheriff's Department was called to lead the pursuit.
Reyna drove into a pasture off State Road 132 and came to a stop when she was surrounded by units. At that time, state police say officers discharged their weapons.
Reyna died from gunshot wounds at the scene, according to police.
State police said their investigation was ongoing. No further information has been released.
