KOB Eyewitness News 4 has obtained the first, detailed information about Saturday's attack on police officers and sheriff's deputies.
The first call to 911 came in at 11:20 a.m.
The first shot rang out six minutes later.
The owner of a car wash and emission shop along Broadway south of Coal says he witnessed the moment APD officer Matthew Hannum was shot.
It was business as usual at the car wash, until Christopher Chase walked up.
"I had a couple customers come over to me and ask me, they said there's a gentleman asking us to leave the premises," said the owner.
He says Chase asked a customer to call 911 and say he was armed and waiting for police.
"He came over and asked us to leave the first two bays," said the owner who doesn't want to be identified.
Then, a horrific scene unfolded right in front of his business.
"Before you know it there was a cop car that skidded to a halt facing east and west right there, right where the median is. He wasn't any more than 20 yards away and before you know it he was putting 8 to 10 bullets in the side of the car," he said.
He says he watched as APD Officer Hannum was shot in the leg.
"He got out of the car and he went to hide behind a truck that was parked over here on the side of the street and the gentleman kept firing at him. it went on for a good six to eight minutes," he said.
But it was about to get even worse.
"The gentleman walked over to a park bench and sat there and he picked up a black bag," he remembers. "Then he grabbed the black bag in his left hand, walked over to the police car, fired two more shots at the officer, got in the cop car and then started taking off."
