Police: Pedestrian not using crosswalk hit, killed by motorcycle

A pedestrian struck by a motorcycle near Coors Boulevard and Montano Road on Wednesday evening died at the scene.

Around 8:15 p.m., Albuquerque police said motorcyclist Matthew Atkins was traveling south on Coors when he hit an unidentified man walking across the street. Police said the pedestrian was not using the crosswalk at the time of the crash.

Atkins was thrown from his motorcycle upon impact and later taken to a local hospital. His current condition was not released.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Office of the Medical Investigator is identifying the pedestrian to notify next of kin.
