Ever had a headache that just won’t go away? Families near Dellyne and Unser called 4 On Your Side after they said the city failed to act on its months-long promise to clean one of its own properties.
“You could see piles of trash in here, you could see piles of dog doo in here, and I kept trying to express this to them and still nobody was coming out,” homeowner Sharon Holt said.
Friday morning, she showed off all the problems. In addition to the trash, she pointed to dead trees, dead bushes, and weeds that were more than four-feet high.
“I look at this, and it's like god this is so disgusting,” Holt said. “I've had friends come and visit and they literally say, god, it looks ghetto down there.”
She said she started contacting the city in June. Initially, she said a city parks worker promised to have the mess cleaned up in two or three weeks. When that never materialized, Holt contacted the city again.
Week after week, Holt said the problems just never went away.
“It's a complete failure for people not doing their job, instead of getting over here and maintaining it,” she said.
City councilor Ken Sanchez also expressed frustration over the situation after he said his staff contacted the parks department weeks ago as well.
“They’re dealing with it, but it’s being dealt with in slow motion,” he said.
But less than an hour after 4 On Your Side documented the mess, city parks crews showed up and removed the weeds, collected the trash, and rebuilt the once-defunct sprinkler system.
