Fast and easy work in No. 23 New Mexico’s 88-52 season opening win against Alabama A&M.

College basketball season is back in Albuquerque.

A new coach will lead a group of familiar faces as No. 23 New Mexico enter its season opener against Alabama A&M.

Saturday night is usually reserved for college football - New Mexico beat Air Force in a Friday night football game 45-37 - but Lobo fans have anxiously waited months to fill The Pit with cherry and silver since last season’s premature exit from the NCAA Tournament.

New Mexico returns four starters and head coach Craig Neal should find early success in his first regular season game as a head coach.

Alabama A&M is coming off an 11-21 season and a second round exit in the SWAC Tournament.

The Bulldogs return leading scorers DeMarquelle Tabb, Jeremy Crutcher and Brandon Ellis.

The Lobos will start Cleveland Thomas along with veterans Kendall Williams, Alex Kirk, Hugh Greenwood and Cameron Bairstow.
