Tierra Antigua Elementary had their Thanksgiving lunch today in the school's cafeteria, but because of what happened last week, Kerri Mascareno and her daughter Lynsey decided to spend the day relaxing at home together.
For Kerri, it's time that she doesn't want to waste.
"It's precious. Every little time is precious being with them," Kerri said.
She has Stage 4 breast cancer and is taking chemotherapy pills to try to shrink the tumor so doctors can operate.
The decision to stay home came after Kerri says her daughter's principal told her she couldn't come inside the building because of her overpowering smell.
Kerri says that it makes me feel really sad and doesn't understand how he could say something like that.
Although the principal did invite Kerri to Thanksgiving dinner at Tierra Antigua, she is "really hurt by what happened and just doesn't want to be around that negativity."
So Kerri decided to be in a positive environment with little Lynsey and enjoy the time she has left with her family because those precious moments may not last much longer.
On Thanksgiving, Kerri plans on having dinner with her kids and she's not going to let her cancer get her down. She'll continue to fight and plans on beating it.
