ALBUQUERQUE – A woman and her son are in hot water for posting a photo of a tiny, white dog inside a Ziploc freezer bag on Facebook.

Mary Snell, 44, and her son, Britton James Engel, 21, were arrested Sunday after a concerned citizen reported the picture to police. Sgt. Aaron Williamson with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department said Snell admitted to placing the dog in the bag to show a friend how small it was.

When asked why she put the dog in a Ziploc bag, Snell advised police that the dog was moving too much to take a picture, so she put the dog in the bag to restrict its movement.

Police said James Engel admitted to taking the picture and posting it on his Facebook page.

Both Snell and Engel were placed under arrest for felony animal cruelty and were booked into MDC.  The dog, "Baby," is safe and in good condition. According to investigators from the BCSO Animal Cruelty Task Force, the actions of Snell and Engel were cruel and could have caused the 8 week old puppy to suffocate.
