New Mexicans had to deal with the cold rain today and it's only the beginning.
Kerry Jones from the National Weather Service says that we're looking at some powerful punches.
"The first punch will be really cold air. In fact, that cold air has made its way into the northern plains of the US and that cold airmass will reach the northeast part of the state early Thursday," Jones said.
If the conditions are right by Friday morning, many parts of the state could see everything from heavy snow to accumulating ice, which would affect bridges, overpasses, trees, and powerlines.
That's why PNM is gearing up, according to Valerie Smith.
"We're focusing on two main things. One is staffing. Making sure we have adequate staffing in place statewide because the storm could hit any of our service areas and also making sure we have adequate equipment and supplies," Smith said.
PNM is also prepared to send resources wherever they're needed.
