Another Democrat is stepping into the race for New Mexico governor.

Lawrence Rael announced his candidacy on Wednesday. Rael recently served as the head of the federal Farm Service Agency in New Mexico. He also spent eight years as executive director of the mid-region council of governments.

Four other candidates are also seeking the Democratic nomination to run against Gov. Martinez in 2014: Attorney General Gary King, state senators Linda Lopez and Howie Morales and Santa Fe businessman Alan Webber.
