For many, today is like Christmas--a Christmas that some haven't seen like this in more than 20 years! Welcome to Opening Day at Red River Ski Area
The runs are rippin'. The lifts are on. The excitement is in the air!
Sarah Dorrance, Marketing Director for Red River Ski Area, say that they're excited because there is so much snow this early in the season.
"We think it's going to be a phenomenal epic winter," Dorrance said.
The heavy snow that hit last week was just what Red River needed, especially since two feet of fresh powder fell on the slopes this past weekend.
All that powder means smooth sailing for the bunny slopes, while the "black diamond" runs were on the verge of extreme as our photojournalist David Thompson got to find out first hand.
Walt Foley, the Deputy General Manager for Red River Ski Area, says that 31 trails are open and the runs from top to bottom are open for the first time in more than 20 years.
Don't forget that Taos Ski Valley, Ski Santa Fe, and Ski Apache open on Thanksgiving.
