Bomb squad finds nothing in evacuated UNM buildings

Classes at three University of New Mexico buildings will resume after a precautionary evacuation Tuesday morning.

Police say UNM dispatch received a call at 8:02 a.m. from a man saying he put bombs in three buildings. He then hung up.

UNM spokeswoman Dianne Anderson said bomb squad canine units searched Mitchell, Ortega and Popejoy halls, but did not find anything suspicious.

Classes resumed in the buildings at 11 a.m.

The registrar said up to 1,890 students were impacted by the evacuation.

Popejoy canceled performances of The Nutcracker at 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. due to the evacuation. Those who had tickets for the 10:15 a.m. performance can attend the performance at 10:15 a.m. on Friday. Those who had tickets for the 12:15 p.m. performance can attend the performance at 12:15 p.m. on Friday.
