The Albuquerque City Council voted 7-2 against halting plans for a controversial roundabout on Monday night.

The proposal to build the roundabout at Rio Grande and Candelaria has been an issue for more than a year. Supporters think it would make the intersection safer, while opponents want new traffic lights instead.

The city received $1 million in federal funding for the project.
