There are some new displays at the River Of Lights this year, including the intricate stegosaurus and unicorns.

Maybe you don't want that type of display, but you can get some good tips for decorating your own home from Joey Trujillo, the man behind the displays at the River Of Lights.

"You could just make a little frame up with some PVC with plastic netting and zip ties, then spell out the word. The rope light is really flexible to use," he stated.

Another great tip: go with LED bulbs. It’s what the Biopark is striving for, since the Biopark only use 20% of LEDs with their entire lighting system.

"We're getting into the LEDs now because incandescent lights use so much power," said Trujillo.

With some nasty weather on the way, be sure to keep the outlets dry and weatherize your lights.

There are also some important “Do Nots” when putting up lights.

"When you're plugging everything, be sure to not to overload your circuits and blow the power in your house and make sure your cords are tied up so you don't trip," Trujillo stated.   You can buy all the lighting gear, including LEDs and rope lights at your local hardware store.
