Albuquerque police are investigating after an officer involved shooting near the University of New Mexico campus on Sunday night.

Acting APD Chief Allen Banks says around 9:30 Sunday night, police received a 911 call from the 7-Eleven near Central and University from a man saying he'd been assaulted. He described a suspect and officers responded.

Officers found the suspect nearby, but he fled on foot and hid. Police found him again and tried to talk to him, but Acting Chief Banks says the man charged at officers with a weapon in his hand. One officer shot a bean bag at him, and the man charged again. Another officer shot his gun at the man.

The man received aid at the scene but died at the hospital. Police have not yet released his name or the names of the officers involved.

This is the seventh shooting involving Albuquerque police officers this year.
