HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) -- A bedbug infestation at a Virginia motel is being blamed for putting a man in the hospital.

"You don't see them, but you feel them," said Hampton resident Robert Malcolm.

Most people don't like being confined to a hospital bed, but Malcolm isn't complaining. For him, it's much better than the one at home.

"You lay in bed and you might feel something," added Malcolm. "You wake up and there are about five or six on you."

Malcolm has been living with bedbugs, and they've been eating away at this skin every night, causing numerous scars. The tiny bugs have put more stress on his already weakened heart, which landed him in the hospital over the weekend.

"You feel them crawling and when you catch them and squeeze them, it isn't nothing but blood," Malcolm said.
